Social Responsibility

We appreciate that we are part of a larger community and that we have a responsibility towards our natural as well as social environment. A business will only flourish in a healthy environment and it is every business responsibility to work towards such a goal. More than that, we however feel we have a moral obligation to work in a sustainable manner that both includes the full spectrum of peoples in Namibia, but also leave a heritage for our children we can be proud of.

Wild Africa Travel is one of the main sponsors and supporters of Bishop Kameeta Kindergarten, an orphanage consisting of about 60 children. Many of our loyal partners have come on board to assist and contribute towards the wellbeing and education of these children. We provide food, clothes and monthly funding for utilities and other expenses for the benefit and welfare of the orphanage. On a lighter side, every year we also host all the children to a Christmas function to ensure each child receives a present and some Christian cheer.

Wild Africa Travel also has a culture of providing sponsorships and financial contributions towards schools, clubs, charities and non-profit organisations to enable them to fulfil their purpose and run their operations. We are also willing fundraising participants at Gala events like the Cheetah Conservation Fund and the Namibian Wild Horses Foundation, events to gather funds for what are extremely worthy causes, both in their own right but also for long term, sustainable tourism.

Within our own offices, we continuously run sponsored traineeship programs for new staff in terms of our BBEE program, the candidates of which should be suitably skilled tour consultants within three years or as qualified diesel mechanics in 4 years. Not only does that improve the opportunities for those who learn new skills and increase their own earning potential, it makes us a better company due to the skills of our staff. We have progressed continuously on our affirmative action program required by the Government of Namibia. We also have focussed programs based on preferential procurement and mentorship for previously disadvantaged Namibian companies, trying to redress past wrongs, but also to fairly distribute wealth created by tourism.

We are proud members and corporate sponsors of the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF), Namibia Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) and have started a collaboration to sponsor the Save the Rhino Trust (SRT) on an ongoing basis. Our commitment to fair business practice and practicing environmentally friendly and conservation conscious tourism has been recognised by the awarding of 5 Eco Flowers to our company, the highest possible recognition.

Bishop Kameete Kindergarden
The Bishop Kameeta Kindergarden is the noble idea of Mrs Anna Fredericks, who acts as the head of this non-profit day care and pre-primary centre. Mrs Fredericks realised that the children living on the streets of Katutura have no future if they do not receive basic care and a pre-school education. Of course she was not able to take care of all the children in Katutura, therefore she concentrated on the immediate surrounding streets of her home. Children she concentrates on are mainly the ones who simply cannot fend for themselves – orphaned children, HIV infected children and children whose parents have no financial means to support them in any way.

Eco Awards

Tourvest Destination Management Namibia is a proud bearer of 5 Eco Flowers, which is the highest eco grading possible for a tour operator.
An intense examination programme is conducted by Eco Awards Namibia governing body – this organisation serves as a mark of distinction for establishments and tour operators that plan and manage according to eco-friendly principles. The programme promotes the selective and careful use of our resources, promoting reducing, recycling and reusing and also uplifting the communities in the areas where tours are conducted.

We have also partnered NWR (Namibia Wildlife Resorts) in their EnviroKidz program, taking youngsters into our National Parks to teach them about conservation and the environment.
