Kavango and Zambezi Regions

With its magnificent woodlands and perennial boundary rivers, the Okavango and Zambezi  regions contrast sharply with the other more arid regions found within Namibia. Here one finds large swathes of tall woodland, riverine forests, floodplains and reed-lined channels. A stunning variety of birds and animals are attracted to this diversity of habitats, some of which are not found in any other part of the country.

The Zambezi strip starts properly only once it enters the Bwabwata Bational Park. For many however, it is easier to also include the Kavango region, as this is the gateway to this narrow incongruous strip of land, bordered by Angola, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. A green oasis, fed by various rivers, amongst others the Okavango, the Zambezi and the Kwando, this area teams with wildlife and almost unequalled birdlife. The entire area is either protected land in terms of being a park, or communal land and conservancies. It is the final dynamic or contrast in a country blessed by contrasts, a wetland to oppose the thirstlands and deserts.
